HUSH COLLECTION

Posted in Ask the Experts, V.I.B. Weddings, Vendor Spotlight, Wedding Dresses

A BRIDESMAID DRESS LINE THAT SPEAKS FOR ITSELF

Located at 204-99 Osborne Street, HUSH Collection is an affordable dress boutique catered to bridesmaids. The boutique runs by appointment only from Thursday to Sunday, which allows groups to have a private consultation with the entire store to themselves when choosing their dresses. They are also open to the public for walk-ins Monday to Wednesday.

Shopping for bridesmaids’ dresses should be a unique bonding moment between the bride/groom and their ladies. At HUSH Collection, the Bridal Consultants strive to ensure that the appointments are a stress free and enjoyable time.

“From picking the perfect dresses, colours, lengths, and fabrics, it is our goal to help and guide the bride/groom and their bridesmaids through the process. Each wedding is so unique, and we love to take people’s ideas to help mold their wedding vision into reality,” explains Karleece Lapointe, Bridal Manager for HUSH Collection.

HUSH Collection carries over 60 styles of dresses, in 380 different colours, and in seven different fabric options. Samples are available in-store for all styles, in sizes ranging from 0 to 16, and select styles up to size 26.

HUSH Collection is dedicated to helping bring every bride and groom’s vision to life, and when the special day finally arrives, they love to see photos of the wedding they helped create.

“Superb, thank you to HUSH Collection for our beautiful bridesmaid dresses. Having a larger bridal party, I wanted the girls to feel confident in their dress style. HUSH Collection gives you this ability by supplying many styles of dresses along with offering private boutique hours. This allowed me to bring my girls in smaller groups and allowed me to help each of them choose the right dress for them. There are many colour options to choose from as well which allowed me to pick a shade that I was trying to envision in my mind. The dresses came out absolutely gorgeous! If you are looking to pick a unique colour and be able to allow your girls to choose something that suits them personally, HUSH Collection is your go-to boutique!” says bride, Tiffanie Bruneau.

REAL WEDDINGS: Rachael & Jeff

Posted in Flowers, Photography, V.I.B. Weddings, Wedding Dresses

Photos: Casey Nolin Photography

Rachael and Jeff met in 2011 when they were working across the mall from one another. Jeff had come in to Rachael’s workplace looking for lotion. Rachael thought he would be looking for a manly scent and burst out laughing when Jeff asked for a fruity scent like Mango! He went back to work smelling like a Mango, and Rachael couldn’t stop thinking about their conversation. About a week later, Rachael got Jeff’s name from his co-worker and found him on Facebook. She took a chance and asked him for his number, knowing it would be worth the risk.

They got engaged while skating at The Forks with their friends. They were under the bridge when their friends suggested taking some photos, which was all a part of Jeff’s master plan. As they were taking photos, Jeff spun Rachael around to face him and started to kneel down. She asked him what he was doing and to get back up when he then pulled out a ring and it finally clicked. It was the BEST surprise.

Rachael and Jeff’s wedding was the most magical day of their lives. They wanted it to be whimsical, like they were in an enchanted forest. It was a backyard wedding, with lots of greenery, tulle and twinkle lights. They had grey table cloths with burgundy napkins and floral centrepieces that had pops of burgundy, blush pink, white and green. There were gold accents, lanterns and mason jars with tea lights everywhere.

“It was seriously the Best. Day. Ever. I want to do it all over again!” – Rachael

CUSTOM FORMAL WEAR FOR THE MODERN GENTLEMAN

Winnipeg’s own Eph Apparel produces custom-made suits, tuxedos, blazers, dress pants, dress shirts, topcoats and accessories made to your unique measurements. Unlike off-the-rack retailers, Eph Apparel lets you take the wheel and design your own suit at a fraction of the price of a traditional retailer. Customers are empowered to create their suit from the ground up: cuff to lapel, pocket to jacket liner, collar to monogram, in any of over one thousand different fabrics. Their stylists work with you one-on-one to build a custom look with personal touches that you won’t find anywhere else.

“Weddings today are unique and reflect the individual’s personality,” explains Andrew Parkes, Co-Founder of Eph Apparel. “We believe that the clothes you wear on your big day should be something that you and your groomsmen are excited to wear again and again.” Whether you want a traditional black tuxedo, a trendy burgundy suit, or a less formal option like linen pants and a white shirt for a destination wedding, Eph Apparel specializes in making your garments exactly how you want them.

Designed specifically for the wedding party experience, Eph Apparel offers fun and interactive group fittings where the process is not only engaging and educational, but unlike any traditional shopping experience.

“The moment we walked in, we felt at home. The Jets game was on the big screen TV, a private weddings corner had been reserved exclusively for our use and the team at Eph made the experience fun and easy unlike something you might experience at a tux rental shop,” explains Paul, who got married in a custom Eph Apparel Suit.

More than just custom, Eph Apparel products come with a Flawless Fit Guarantee which not only ensures that the price you pay covers everything from production to shipping and alterations, but that it is also a risk-free purchase – if you don’t love it, they will remake it for free.

The made-to-measure experience will fit any man, of any size, on any budget. Eph Apparel offers the most fun, innovative, and unique suiting experience in Canada that begins with a Wedding Consult with an experienced Stylist, and doesn’t end until you’re walking down the aisle feeling your best.

Interested in a completely unique shopping experience? Stop by Eph Apparel at 190 Smith Street, call 1.888.343.6117 or visit www.ephapparel.com

TIPS & TOOLS TO HELP PLAN YOUR BIG DAY

Posted in Ask the Experts, V.I.B. Weddings, Wedding Resources

Leanne Rajotte, Owner of Prairie Sky Events

Weddings are confusing, complicated and can be stressful. I could sit here and tell you all about how a wedding planner can help with all three of those things but I’d rather give you some tips and tools to make the process a little easier.

BREATHE
Yes, I realize this seems like common sense, you do that every day, but I know sometimes we want to rush through the process. Take a step back, breathe and enjoy. This is your special day and you need to enjoy the engagement season.

INCORPORATE YOU
Ensure you are incorporating YOU into your wedding day. You’re the ones being celebrated, right? Ask yourself, “What represents you as a couple?”, “What are your hobbies?”, “What do you love doing together?” There are ways to incorporate these elements. Make it your own by the songs you choose, the people giving toasts, the kissing games, favours, or entertainment for your guests. The options are endless!

DON’T GET TIED DOWN TO THE “HAVE TO’S”
I have heard so often: “I have to do a garter toss, I have to have a first dance, I have to have a big wedding, I have to have a wedding party” and on and on it goes. I am here to tell you: You do not need to do anything you don’t want to, your wedding day is about you and your partner. Yes, I am not oblivious to the fact that there will always be others that have opinions about your wedding day, but look at your wedding day through your own eyes and ask yourself: “Do I really want this?”, “Does this represent us as a couple?”, “Do I care one way or the other?”

REAL WEDDINGS: LINDSEY & ANDREW

Posted in Flowers, Men's Formal Wear, V.I.B. Weddings

Photos: Pantel Photography

Lindsey and Andrew had been friends since the eleventh grade, never leaving the friend zone for almost fifteen years until one day they realized what was in front of their faces all along.  They dated for two and a half years—bonding over their dog, Carl Winslow, spending time together at the lake, and building a relationship with a solid foundation of friendship.

The couple got engaged on a trip to Vancouver with Lindsey’s sister and her boyfriend in August 2017 when Andrew popped the question in the middle of a group photo opportunity, though Andrew had a hard time actually getting the words out.

They opted for dark, classic, seasonally appropriate colours for their winter wedding. Andrew looked dashing in a rich navy wool/cashmere custom-designed tuxedo by Eph Apparel. Lindsey and her bridesmaids kept warm with fur shawls which added a touch of elegance. To complete their elegant chic style, the couple used touches of gold and merlot accents in décor and accessories.

“Being surrounded by the people we love most on our wedding day is something we will never forget.”

REAL WEDDINGS: KRISTA & BRET

Posted in Decor, Photography, V.I.B. Weddings

Photos: Pantel Photography

Krista and Bret both love nature and wanted a venue that was full of greenery for their summer wedding. They were lucky enough to have Bret’s aunt and uncle agree to host their big day on their beautiful property which included horses and a picturesque tree line framing the tent. Most of all, they wanted their love for each other and their gratitude to their guests to shine through.

They added personal touches by having their pup’s face on Koozies as wedding favours, along with Bret’s mom’s famous habanero jelly. They also had custom games for their guests to play over cocktail hour, a scotch and cigar bar, and live music.

To achieve a dreamy vibe, the couple had a soft blush and gold palette, loads of greenery, whimsical dream catchers, their favourite quotes custom-made on large slabs of wood, and florals dripping off the tent.

Their guests told them the wedding was “so them” and “so full of love” which truly meant the world to Krista and Bret, as they never wanted to get so lost in the process that the day would get away from what it is truly meant to be—committing to the love of your life in front of all the people you hold dear.

“It looked like a dream, all our family and friends in one place—a moment I’ll never forget.”

PLAN WITH THE PROS: MELANIE PARENT EVENTS

WHY YOU NEED TO WORK WITH A PROFESSIONAL TO MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR WEDDING STYLE AND DESIGN

Planning & Styling: Melanie Parent Events

Photo: Esther Funk Photography

With countless sources of wedding inspiration, it’s no wonder couples are overwhelmed and under pressure to make the “right” design decisions for their big day. Working with a professional wedding planner to guide you through the style and design process is a must nowadays. Here is some of the advice we, at Melanie Parent Events, want to share with every couple struggling with design and trends while still trying to stay true to their own style (and let’s be honest, trying to do all of this within a budget!).

Compliment Your Personal Style

When you start searching for your dream venue and envision your wedding, try to remember who you are in everyday life. What are your likes and dislikes? Do you like vintage or modern? Industrial or rustic? Use your current living space, wardrobe, and interests as inspiration for your wedding day style. You want your big day to reflect who you are as individuals and as a couple. Guests who attend your event should see décor and touches that are “so you”.

Photo: Esther Funk Photography

Stay Off Pinterest

Now that you’ve narrowed down a wedding style, stick to it! You’re going to cause yourself stress and confusion by veering off the chosen look and feel. We see it all the time! The couple has decided they love rustic, but they come across a modern minimalist Pinterest board and start questioning every decision they’ve made. Stick to what you fell in love with originally and if you’re still drawn to the other style, look to incorporate small touches without doing a complete overhaul.

Photo: Esther Funk Photography

Work With The Venue

Choosing your date and venue are the first big decisions you’re going to make when planning your wedding. Make sure the room you choose and the surrounding grounds compliment the overall vision. Don’t choose a space that needs a complete overhaul and will cost a fortune to transform from industrial warehouse-industrial to garden chic. The goal is to find a space that has the overall aesthetic and feel so that you can focus on the details and ways to make it “you”.
